For 'financial innovation' read 'confidence game'. Not even The Great South Sea Bubble was as cynical a manipulation of the financial system as the current 'crisis'. Whenever money is needed for health care, education, etc the financiers all decry the cost to the public purse and bewail the lot of the taxpayer, let their own holdings go down the drain and it's Government Bail Out Time, and not even a kiss for the poor, buggered taxpayer.
